How To Teach Schumann Wild Rider
Today we're talking about how to teach The Wild Rider Op.68, No.8, also known as The Wild Horseman, from Robert Schumann’s Album for the Young.
This piece is a great preparation for fast, fingery pieces like Mozart’s Rondo alla turca, and for that reason, it’s included in my newest resource, Not Ready Yet.
Not Ready Yet - suggestions, complete with direct links to quality editions, for alternative and preparatory repertoire appropriate for TEN of the most-asked-for pieces. The next time a beginner or intermediate student asks you to play Clair de lune, the Pathetique, or Maple Leaf Rag, be prepared and have options at your fingertips! Check it out here.
And now, back to the piece at hand:

In this video, I primarily discussed staccato technique. I borrowed two terms from Catherine Rollin, which I encountered in her Pathways to Artistry series.
I also briefly discussed chord theory and the ABA form.
